About

JOANN DONEEN

In art as in nature there resides a power, beauty and poignancy that reflect vividly our own inner landscapes. In sculptured paintings that range from hand held to wall size, the vastness and mystery of nature is explored through intimate marks on surface which expresses cracked earth crust, a serene and distant crest of hill, or the wandering black sketch lines of river and wind. In some paintings, I use the aerial perspective, as well as the simple material of paint, sand and touch to highlight the errant delicacy of all land formations, natural or manmade. My work is about immensity as it is revealed in each present moment and that our undeniable attraction to beauty is because, in some ultimate way, it tells us who we really are.

Joann Doneen studied with artist Herman Keys and attended the Art Students League in New York City. She is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
